Is Liberty Still in Our Government?

In the past week, a main focus in the United States has been the Brett Kavanaugh testimony against Christine Ford's sexual misconduct allegations. This interrupted the decision if Mr. Kavanaugh should be elected to the Supreme Court after his nomination from President Trump.

A main problem in the testimony was the political aspect of the decision. Both Democrats and Republicans took the side of the person that would be in favor of their political party. While Republicans and the President took the side of Kavanaugh who would contribute to their views in future decisions and cases brought to the Supreme Court. This sparked a question; Is Liberty still in our government?

In the Declaration of Sentiments by Elizabeth Stanton, women hoped to spread equality throughout the nation and gain the independence and rights that the white men in the United States had already achieved. Although in the recent testimony between Kavanaugh and Ford an extreme bias against Ford had played a main role in the decision to elect Kavanaugh. Due to the heavy influence of political parties power on the decision, the allegations did not influence the outcome. Many people now believe the overall decision was to give power to the political party instead of giving women an equal chance to use their voice. Thus, do women have the same Liberty that men have or are political parties and government standing in the way of it?

Women have achieved a drastic amount of change in the past by giving rights to women and shortening the gap in equality between men and women. Although certain aspects in this nation do not give the Liberty deserved especially in government. The fight for Liberty and equality for women is not over and a change in society is hopeful for the future.

  1. I really like how you used real life situations such as the Kavanaugh controversy to support your argument for your topic. Since the debate on the situation is so prominent, the evidence is easy to connect to and good for the argument. I agree with you that although there have been steps for women in the fight for equality, it's still not all there especially in government aspects.

  2. I love the way that you worded and formatted your blog, it almost look like an article of a magazine or the news. The information was also very crucial and went hand in hand. The struggle for women still continues today, but someday we will achieve it. Also the news about Kavanaugh and how he's only confirmed because of the president and all the republicans, but not because of people's views and their voices with votes, so good job in stating that and connecting to the women's rights
